When a German shipowner had to accept the loss of a fin rudder on one of his MPPs a few weeks ago, he commissioned LOEWE MARINE to solve the problem quickly.
We first carried out a root cause analysis as to why the rudder built by another company was lost and developed a new design with a replacement rudder blade approved and accepted by the relevant classification society. This is produced in Germany and adapted to the ship's existing, undamaged rudder stock and coker system.
Our design team in Bremen completed the design part including FE analysis at very short notice. On 27.11.2020, the steel processing of the rudder blade was completed within the scheduled time. In the next step, the rudder blade (still without fin) will now be connected to the original rudder stock in order to carry out the final mechanical processing and the blue-image test required by the class.
Final assembly of the rudder blade and fin, including painting, takes place at the beginning of December before the system is transported to the shipyard for installation. In addition to providing installation advice for the rudder system, our service team also carries out maintenance on the rudder machine.
Many thanks to the dedicated team members of LOEWE MARINE and our partners who make all this possible through motivated teamwork.
